Before his disobedience, Iblees was known as Azazeel. He was a devout worshipper among the Jinns and, due to his piety, was elevated to a high status among the angels. However, when Allah commanded all to prostrate to Adam, Azazeel refused out of pride. Due to this arrogance, he was cast out of Allah’s mercy and became known as Iblees (the Desperate One), later referred to as Shaytan.
